چکیده

1 CSIRO Land and Water, Adelaide, Australia. Email: [email protected] 2 CSIRO Land and Water, Canberra, Australia. Water is a key resource to sustain human life. Therefore, sustaining growth in the human population requires even more water to be available. Water sharing management is the major problem for water resources and irrigation management decision makers. The water Act 2007-Australia requires the newly formed Murray Darling Basin (MDB) Authority to develop an integrated plan which specifies amongst other things, long term sustainable diversion limits, water quality objectives, provision for critical human needs and environmental watering plans for all of the Basin’s rivers.

The atmospheric water balance over the Murray-Darling Basin, based on numerical weather prediction output

The hydroclimate of the Murray-Darling Basin in southeast Australia has been investigated by estimating the Basin’s atmospheric water balance, based on numerical weather prediction (NWP) output. The water balance has been calculated for the period from 2000 to 2004, using archived output from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology’s mesoscale model, the Limited Area Prediction System (LAPS). The ...

A Post Keynesian Environmental Macroeconomic Model for Agricultural Water Sustainability under Climate Change in the Murray-Darling Basin, Australia

Climate change has profound consequences for the agriculture of south-eastern Australia and its climate-induced water shortage in the Murray-Darling Basin. Post Keynesian Economics (PKE) macro-dynamics, along with Kaleckian investment and growth theory, are used to develop an ecological-economic system dynamics model of this complex nonlinear river basin system. The MurrayDarling Basin Simulati...

Integrating Biophysical and Economic Data to Support Water Allocations in the Murray Basin, Australia

Economic analysis of policies aimed at sustainable use and management of natural resources requires information about the biophysical and economic aspects of alternative options. Since these biophysical and economic aspects are inter-related and inter-dependent, it is essential that these data are integrated. However, existing biophysical and economic monitoring networks and studies tend to obs...

Water use and salinity in the Murray–Darling Basin: A state-contingent model*

The Murray–Darling Basin comprises over 1 million square kilometres; it lies within four states and one territory; and over 12,800 gigalitres of irrigation water is used to produce over 40 per cent of the nation's gross value of agricultural production. The supply of water for irrigation is subject to climatic and policy uncertainty. The object of the present paper is to show how the linear and...

A Bayesian Decision Network Approach for Salinity Management in the Little River Catchment, NSW

Salinisation is a major environmental problem affecting land and water systems in Australia. This paper outlines a study currently being undertaken to provide a new tool to manage salinity from environmental and socioeconomic perspectives. In this study, biophysical and socio-economic aspects of the Little River Catchment and their relevance to salinity management will be investigated using a B...
